At Snow and Paddles, we believe your first experience should be flawless. We don’t just “hire out” worn-out gear; we provide a fully guided, premium experience designed to make you fall in love with the water.

Please specify your preferred date when booking:

  • August 21st – 23rd: (8 Spaces Remaining)

The Experience: What to Expect

Wildlife & Scenery

The Wye is a living corridor of nature. As we glide downstream, keep your eyes peeled for:

  • Majestic Swans drifting alongside the boats.

  • Buzzards soaring on the thermals above the valley.

  • Salmon leaping from the glassy surface of the water.

Expert Guiding & Premium Gear

“You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” That’s why we invest in the latest modern equipment and provide fully qualified guides. We handle all the “behind-the-scenes” logistics so you can focus entirely on the scenery and the stars.

Accessible Adventure

This is a journey, not an endurance event. You don’t need to be an Olympian to join us—just bring a sense of adventure! While we don’t intend on getting wet, all participants must be able to swim 25 metres for safety.

Trip Essentials

  • Group Size: We keep our groups between 4 and 10 people. Why? Because we believe large “armadas” of canoes ruin the peace. Small groups mean more wildlife, more relaxation, and better coaching.

  • Camping: We use the best local riverside campsites. While locations may shift slightly based on availability, we will always notify you well in advance.

  • The Shuttle: Depending on group size, we occasionally coordinate with guests for vehicle shuttles. This often works to your advantage, ensuring your car is waiting for you right as you step off the river!

Why Choose Snow and Paddles for the Wye?

Most people just rent a boat and hope for the best. With us, you get a curated experience. We take the stress out of navigation and equipment, leaving you with nothing to do but paddle, breathe, and enjoy the wild.

Following on from an Arctic survival course in 2019 I looked to see what else Nigel, Snow and Paddles, had to offer.
Having never canoed I thought I would give it a try so in 2023 I booked onto the Bridge over the river Wye trip, which was a good taster and a fun way to spend a weekend with likeminded people. I enjoyed it so much that I booked to go on it again in 2024. Needless to say another great trip, so for 2025 I have booked onto the Great Glen.
If you are looking for a bit of adventure I could not think of any better company to go with and you don’t have to be young and super fit, take it from a 65+

Having done this trip on the Wye many times with Nigel, I can guarantee that you will have a great time, you will laugh, you will love the scenery on the river, you will enjoy the company and you will learn something.

If you have never paddled or even sat in a canoe before, you are in safe hands with Nigel as he will guide you the whole way. It’s a great experience for anyone, and I recommend this trip to everyone.

If your already thinking about it……. stop thinking, do yourself a favour and just book yourself a place.

I had an great time on the River Wye canoe trip this weekend. The scenery was beautiful. especially with the ducklings and goslings swimming along the river with us. Everything was really well organised from start to finish. A perfect trip for a first-time paddler! Highly recommended for anyone looking to reconnect with the outdoors and have a fun time. Thank you Nigel.

  4. Mike Windsor Verified Owner

Four of us, friends aged 50+, joined the River Wye expedition with Snow and Paddles, and we had an absolute blast. In total, there were 9 guests plus our brilliant instructor, Nigel (Nobby), making a full group of 10. Even at maximum capacity, it never felt crowded; it actually proved they keep their promise of small, intimate groups!

The pace of the trip was exactly what we needed—slow, steady, and genuinely relaxing. The River Wye is incredibly easy to navigate, which was a huge relief because most of us were complete beginners. Our instructor taught us new paddle techniques and river-reading skills without ever making us feel rushed or stupid. We all came away feeling genuinely more confident on the water.

A special mention has to go to Nigel, the owner, who personally provided all of our equipment. Every single piece—from the canoes to the buoyancy aids—was in immaculate, very good condition. It was clear he takes huge pride in his kit, which put our minds at ease straight away. It’s rare to find an owner so hands-on and committed to quality.

Honestly, the highlight was just how much we laughed. Whether we were perfecting our canoe control, sharing stories as we drifted along, or enjoying the stunning wildlife (we saw swans, buzzards, and even a couple of kingfishers!), the atmosphere was warm, fun, and completely stress-free.

The camping was comfortable, and the logistics (including the vehicle shuttle) were seamless. Snow and Paddles took care of everything behind the scenes, so we could just paddle, breathe, and enjoy the wild—just like the website promises.

If you’re a group of friends wondering if you’re ‘too old’ or ‘too inexperienced’ for a canoe trip—stop wondering and book it. You’ll learn new skills, have a good laugh, and finish the trip feeling refreshed, not exhausted. We’re already talking about coming back next year!”

What an awesome, relaxing, well organised adventure. Hats off to Nigel in supplying top quality gear and making every aspect seamless. This trip is for any age and any ability. Myself and three other friends joined in with a group of ten including Nigel and it was so relaxed and we all pitched in and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I would highly recommend any trip/ adventure organised by Nigel (snow and paddles)…
